ROCK FIVE FENCE'S FAQ

I get this question all the time! Typically, there is an HOA piece that needs to be handled. That said – we can install most fences within a few days

This is an easy one! It takes a few days for 811 to get completed. We can set it up or you can by filling out the ticket request on www.va811.com. We will not install your fence until utilities have been marked.

Most of the time your HOA requires it. It also helps us identify your property corners/boundaries.

We use your plat, a metal detector, and 300 ft tape measures to find MOST property pins. If property pins are missing or buried so deep we cannot find them, the customer is 100% responsible for signing off on the fence location.

First and foremost, check your HOA covenants if you have one. Most HOA documents list allowable fences. We always ask what is the fence for: Privacy? Dogs? Kids? Security? All of these requirements can be satisfied with different styles. A quick conversation with Mark typically narrows down your options.

Pool code varies from area to area. That said, there is a national pool code that provides most areas with a blueprint. Your fence will have height, gap, gate, and lock requirements. Rock Five is an expert in pool fences and can walk you through the process to insure your backyard is safe AND your pool inspections will pass from a barrier (fence) standpoint.

We tell EVERY customer the same thing when it comes to gates – they are much cheaper for us to install when we build your fence than later! We recommend installing gates on both sides of your house AND if you have common area (not privately owned) adjacent to your property, throw a gate on that line too! At some point you will need to retrieve something over your fence.

YES! Typical install is drypack concrete. The exception to this is our gate posts – those always get water to expedite the concrete cure process. The mix we use will cure with the moisture in the surrounding ground or the next rain. We remove air from the mix once it is spread around the posts. This locks your posts into position. It is important to NOT walk your line the day we install and shake posts! This happens more often than you can imagine and requires leveling and recompacting of the concrete mix.

Rock Five installs all types of wood, vinyl, and aluminum fences. We install heights from 3 ft to 8 ft tall. Chain link installations are available but not something we do often in our area.

Typically, the cheapest fence product is our 3 rail paddock-style fence.

Any exterior wood paint or sealant will increase life expectancy of your fence! We provide this service but it is typically something our customers can handle on their own.

99% of all residential fence installations are one day project! I always ask customers to allow 24 hours before using their gates to allow the gate post concrete more time to cure.

Personally – I love aluminum fences! They are sleek, virtually maintenance free, and will last forever. Aluminum does not rust so typical maintenance areas for aluminum fences is gate hardware over time or damaged panels from tree limbs/climbers/etc. If aluminum is not in your budget OR simply not an option, we can always customize a wood fence with trim or fascia to take it up a notch.

This is an important question for you! There is no magic guarantee on fence lifespan, HOWEVER, I can offer these guidelines based on my professional experience: Aluminum is a lifetime fence product if taken care of. Expect your aluminum fence to never need to be replaced due to age. Vinyl fences vary by manufacturer and location. That said, you can expect the typical vinyl fence to last 30 plus years with routine cleaning and maintenance. Wood fences are roughly a 20 year product. These will require occasional board replacement and gate adjustments.

There are a lot of factors that go into answering this. First – what does your HOA (if applicable) say? Second – is the existing fence on or off the property line? Third – what does your neighbor say? In some neighborhoods such as townhome communities we typically install directly on the property line and attach. Bottom line – this should be looked at case-by-case to determine.

Yes! We can automate your gate. There are solar or direct power applications. This can be costly but also adds an incredible touch of security, convenience, and sophistication to your project!
